Twisp Building
This building is set on a wooded hillside in the Methow Valley. It is intended to be the first building on the site, to be joined by a house after the property owner retires.
The current building serves as a combined guest cottage/project space. Formally, it consists of three primary spaces: The project room, the apartment, and the screened porch.
The project room is large enough to allow the construction of a small boat (one of the owner's goals), tall enough to hold a sixteen-foot Christmas tree, and flexible enough to be a workshop in the morning and dining room for twenty at night.
The apartment adjoins the project room, and consists of a bedroom and bathroom stacked over a kitchen and mechanical room. This will be a self-contained guest accommodation when the main house is built; until then, it is the center of activity year-round.
The screened porch allows the owner and her guests to enjoy the Methow's beautiful climate (for three seasons, at least) without including the notorious local Yellowjacket wasps.
Designed by 16D LLC, and built by Paul Gitchos.
The building is designed to be energy-efficient, with super-insulated walls (the building shell is made of SIPS panels, and lined with an additional insulated stud wall that carries the plumbing and electrical services), with radiant-heated floors.
The construction for this project was performed by the gifted local builder Paul Gitchos.
