EZ Studio

In this project, we were asked to design a studio for a working artist, and to place it within her mature (and beautiful) garden without obliterating it. By tucking the builfing into the substantial slope on site, we were able to minimize its apparent size, allowing the new building to function as a backdrop for the landscaping.

Inside, the building is efficient and flexible; the artist pursues her practice here on a wide range of scales. She can produce works up to 10'-0" high and 25'-0" long on the main work wall. She also uses the studio as a classroom, hosting groups of up to 8 students for classes and workshops.

Designed by 16D LLC, and built by Toby Maloy.
